what is Metabolism and Metabolic Dysfunction?

Obesity is a condition where there is an excessive buildup of fat tissue, which can lead to increased health risks. Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that often occur together, including obesity, and increases the risk of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.

PROBLEM

Obesity and metabolic syndrome are closely linked, and a sedentary lifestyle can increase the risk factors for metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is defined as having three or more of the following five criteria:

  • Central obesity

  • Elevated blood glucose

  • Elevated triglycerides

  • Low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol

  • Elevated blood pressure

FIX

8 Weeks to Wellness helps clients with the overall treatment of Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome which usually involves lifestyle changes. This means losing weight, working with a dietitian to change your diet, and getting more exercise. Losing weight increases HDL ("good") cholesterol and lowers LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides. Losing weight can also reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

OUTCOME
